Preparations: Building Excitement and Team Spirit
The Texans have been participating in the HWS since 2019. Starting with our team formation in November, our Varsity families began making plans to travel to Florida at the end of April. Our season started with some injuries to key players, which led to some shifting of the rosters and plenty of prayers and encouragement for the rehab of our players.
Finalizing the roster was just the first step of our preparation. The parents worked together to plan the travel, lodging and feeding of our team during the entire week. We reserved three houses for the players and chaperones, rented one 15-passenger van and two minivans to transport our players and chaperones throughout the week. All the families contributed to the menu plan so that we could keep everyone well fed throughout a week of baseball games!
Competition: The Heart of the Experience
Twenty-three teams from all over the United Steps gathered in Auburndale to compete for a chance to win the Hendricks Cup. Each team plays a double header on Monday and at least one game on Tuesday that will determine what bracket they will play in for the rest of the week.
The Texans faced tough competition from the Nashville Monarchs and the Oklahoma City Broncos on Monday, landing us in Division 3.
Winning two games on Tuesday and Thursday put us in the championship game on Friday. After a difficult battle with the Nashville Knights, the Texans placed 2nd in the Division 3 bracket.

All-Tournament Game
On Saturday, the top three players from each team in Division 3 gather together to play one final game. As the second place team, our coaches had the privilege of coaching one of the teams. The Texans nominated for this game were Carter Foster, Sam Luttrell, and Easton Odom. This game was a fun way to conclude a week of baseball that was full of challenging, but friendly competition.
